"He couldn't get a parking ticket because he had diplomatic immunity"-- Ben Stiller Keeping the Faith

Okay so I don't know why I have always thought that part of the movie was hilarious and guess what? We will have diplomatic immunity in a few months! (I really doubt that extends to parking tickets) Yup that's right today Christopher landed his DREAM job!!!!!! He has an offer from the state department to become a foreign service officer and will essentially be managing an embassy somewhere. We could not be more thrilled. I mean seriously we just keeping laughing and are so giddy its silly. I keep looking at our boys and thinking "You are going to have THE coolest life." Living in foreign countries, attending private international schools (which we don't have to pay for whooo hooo!). I am just so excited for our future. Chris passed the last part of the insanely long process today with a nine hour oral exam. And get this not only did he pass the previous written exam on the first try, (practically unheard of) he also scored higher then anyone we have encountered on the oral. I know I am bragging but I feel like he is finally getting the recognition he deserves for being such an amazing person. So, it is off to DC for a few months after the bar and then we literally could go ANYWHERE in the world (as long as they have an embassy.... which we will probably be living in:)) Get your passports ready friends because we expect a lot of visitors! (the picture is of a beach in Australia my number one on our ranking list).

Congrats on your husband passing the orals. Now you just have to get through the clearance process. The waiting is the hardest part. There is a group on yahoo groups for people who have passed the oral assessment (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/A-100-2002/). They offer a lot of useful information about the clearance process and waiting for your offer to join an A-100 (the orientation class), including alerts as to when "the calls" (which are really emails) start going out. You are joining at a good time...they have increased the number of classes because we need more people.

You can also, if you are interested, check out my blogroll at http://lifeafterjerusalem.blogspot.com. I have around 100 links to blogs by Foreign Service folks and their spouses...it is a nice way to obsess about the future, get a slice of FS life, etc.

Good luck.

CONGRATS!!Good job Chris! That's so freaking exciting!!!! Can't wait to find out where you guys are off to. I'm excited to finally have an excuse to travel abroad :) So now that Becky's all moved out (YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!-can you tell I'm a bit excited), if you guys come out, you can have that whole upstairs appartment and there's a queen bed up there, or we could bring the mattress down to our appartment. But you wouldn't have to sleep on our awesome fold out!! Hope we get to see you before we head back!

Sweet! Welcome to our world! Then again, you guys will be with State which is a good thing, better than where we are as the ugly stepchildren (LOL, that would not only include us with ICE but FBI, and DEA...State HATES having to take care of us).
As for the diplomatic immunity, it definately has helped me out (like when Mexican cops are at your door demanding to come in to ask questions and you can just say "sorry, I don't think so...talk to the intercom" or when rogue cops pull you over looking for bribes...same thing, love the Dip. immunity) but it isn't as encompasing as Hollywood makes it out to be...bummer.
Can't wait to find out where your first assignment is going to be! It would be fun to have you in Mexico City with us (again, you'd be with State so you wouldn't have to deal with the nightmares we've had to) but we'll probably be gone by the time you guys are ready to go!
